First Aid history of David Tagg :
- December 1961 - David Tagg first learned First Aid as a Junior Member of the British Red Cross Society (BRCS).
- Continuing his BRCS training in First Aid and Nursing, he began instructing, at the age of 16, teaching Junior Members (8-11yrs & 11-15yrs) of the BRCS, having gained instructional skills.
- July 1968 - David was appointed as BRCS Assistant Cadet Officer, teaching Junior First Aid, Nursing & Welfare and completed a BRCS Instructors Course.
- David gained the Advanced Artificial Respiration qualification of the Royal Life Saving Society and, as a qualified BRCS First Aid Instructor, he was also involved in teaching the Hampshire Ambulance Service personnel first aid, for their professional qualification before Ambulance Aid was developed as a seperate qualification.
- As part of a group of Hampshire BRCS instructors in Casualty Simulation David was involved in teaching London BRCS members Casualty Simulation, which included the make up of wounds and skin tones, acting of symptoms and giving appropriate responses to either the correct or incorrect treatment.
- As H&SE 4 day courses developed he was involved First Aid at Work (FAW) Courses as a BRCS Instructor for industrial first aiders.
- In 1970's, as Commandant (leader) of an adult Detachment of BRCS First Aiders, David organized the groups training and the logistics of First Aid cover for MotoCross, Point To Points and was actively involved in the organisation and training of the BRCS members attending the Farnborough Air Shows (FAS).
- During this time he qualified in Advanced First Aid, which introduced Oxygen and Entonox Therapy to BRCS First Aiders for the first time.
- It was during a FAS that David was approached by senior officers in Hampshire Ambulance Service suggesting a career change for him from retail management to Ambulanceman.
- January 1982 - David and Linda were awarded BRCS Life Membership, the BRCS Badge of Honour and the Voluntary Medical Services Medal (VMSM), in recognition for their work within the BRCS.
- Between 1980-1990 - David worked for Hampshire Ambulance Service on front line emergency work, qualifying as Proficient in Ambulance Aid in May 1982.
- He was selected to attend Instructional Methods Training at the Wessex Regional Ambulance School.
- October 1985 Gained a Licentiate of the Ambulance Service Institute (No. 3554) qualification.
- In the later stages of his Ambulance Service career he qualified to be trained in Intubation and Infusion skills.
- May 1990 - Gained a Diploma in Aromatherapy with Shirley Price.
- March 1996 - As recreational divers, David and Linda gained their British Sub-Aqua Club Oxygen Administration qualification.
- March 2005 - Attended Emergency First Aid Update and Hedgerow Medicine course.
- 2006-9 - Updated knowledge on First Aid at Work Courses content.
- In training, David uses his own Resuscitation Manikin, with a disposable lung/airway for students practical application, applying the current Resuscitation guidelines.
- Course Presentation is by computer generated projection and practical demonstration, with student involvement.
